Caucasian Mated Queen Bees - Pre Order For 2025 - Earliest Dispatch Date - 10th April 2025
Caucasian Queen Bees comes from the high valleys of the central Caucasus (Georgia). They have similar characteristics to the Carniolan (Carnica) bee, but unlike this one it has a low propensity to swarm. The main characteristics of the Caucasian bee are as follows:
- Raising strong colonies, but later than the other races without an explosive spring build up
- Strong overwintering success
- Fly earlier in the season and in cool conditons - perfect for the UK
- Extremely gentle and calm on the comb
- Low tendency to rob honey
- Very great user of propolis - perfect for harvesting propolis
The Caucasian Bee is endowed with the longest tongue and can take advantage of the nectar sources inaccessible to other races.
Caucasian bees tend to reach full strengh in mid summer and are therefore an ideal option to take advantage of a late season heather honey crop.
To reduce the propensity for abundant propolis harvesting (which in certain areas can make the visit of the hives difficult) and to anticipate spring development, our Caucasian bees are fertilized by Buckfast drones.
Our Caucasian Queen Bees are not just bees; they are the embodiment of a beekeeping legacy. Known for their docility, Caucasian bees make beekeeping an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Whether you're a seasoned beekeeper or just starting, our Caucasian mated queens pave the way for a thriving and sustainable apiary.

Here is a link to our YouTube channel on how to successfully introduce queens. We cannot be held liable for any failed queen introductions. Bees are wild creatures and successful introduction is never guaranteed.
Mated queen bees are natural creatures and although we can advise you on how to achieve the best introduction success, we cannot be held liable for any failed queen introductions.
The Carniolan honey bee (Apis mellifera carnica, Pollmann) is a subspecies of the western honey bee. The Carniolan honey bee is native to Slovenia, southern Austria, and parts of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria.
The bee is the subspecies of the Western honey bee that has naturalized and adapted to the Kočevje (Gottschee) sub-region of Carniola (now in Slovenia), the southern part of the Austrian Alps, Dinarides region, southern Pannonian plain and the northern Balkans. These bees are known as Carniolans, or "Carnies" for short, in English. At present this subspecies is the second most popular among beekeepers (after the Italian bee).
It is favored among beekeepers for several reasons, not the least being its ability to defend itself successfully against insect pests while at the same time being extremely gentle in its behavior toward beekeepers.
These bees are particularly adept at adjusting worker population to nectar availability. It relies on these rapid adjustments of population levels to rapidly expand worker bee populations after nectar becomes available in the spring, and, again, to rapidly cut off brood production when nectar ceases to be available in quantity. It meets periods of high nectar with high worker populations and consequently stores large quantities of honey and pollen during those periods. They are resistant to some diseases and parasites that can debilitate hives of other subspecies

Reviews
Lovely Queens
Really impressed with my new Caucasian queen. I've placed her in a queenless Buckfast hive. The Buckfast bees have accepted her with no problems, they even built fresh comb right upto and attached to the queen cage. I will definitely be getting these.
I've had queens and nucs before from BMH and they have always been top quality.
